HOW DO I GET PASSED BLUE ERROR SCREEN ON WINDOWS XP?

When I boot my personal Windows doesn’t begin and I get blue error page. I tried F8 list will not begin in safe mode or anything else. I even tried system restore and got the same blue screen. I do not have a windows xp disk as it came on the computer. I need to get things off af the hard drive. How can I fix this?

I am trying to add a networked printer (HP photosmart d7360) to my WinXP laptop. The printer is connected to my desktop, running WinME. Each time I try to add the printer, I get the following error message: “the data area passed to a system call is too small.” Then, the window freezes up and will not respond. Anyone have any suggestions?
